I first started a stonemasonry apprenticeship with Historic Environment Scotland in 2012, based at Elgin Cathedral, Stirling Castle and Glasgow Cathedral. I enjoyed the combination of learning by classroom and on-site experience and I particularly enjoyed the range of important historical monuments I had opportunity to work on. In 2016 I took part in the William Morris Fellowship year, run by the Society for the Protection for Ancient Buildings.
During this Fellowship I was introduced to the City and Guilds of London Art School course in Architectural Stone Carving. I signed up the following year for a three year course to better train my eye, learn new carving techniques and further enhance the skills gained from my apprenticeship.
